Day 3 • Our Village
On the fated day of 18th September 2021
Aunty Oni came to the Yuva village
She gave us a day to remember
A day filled with stories, songs, laughter, and learning
Then came the little elves
With their bag of stories
Right off the best seller’s shelves
Their voices were bold and captivating
Hosted by ACEnovation
An opportunity of a lifetime
Trying to inspire innovation
In the minds of young ones
They came bearing gifts
The traditions of storytelling they uplift
Teachers Report
An enthralling session on storytelling, organized by ACE novation was the agenda for today’s Drama and Literature club. Ms Annupreya. welcomed the attendees of today’s session. The keynote speaker, Aunti Oni from Philadelphia (USA) was an enthusiastic storyteller who captivated the children with her vibrant storytelling techniques. Her laughter yoga was a great start to the session. The participants laughed their hearts out and were all set to delve into the world of stories.
The mood elevated as she carolled HELLO in different languages. She was highly expressive as she narrated two short stories. UBUNTU, a South African folktale about unity and community love seized the attention of the participants. Children enjoyed listening to her stories that were so full of life. Watching her narrating a story with so much ease was a great learning experience for students as well as teachers.
The young storytellers from Yuvabharathi were called to present their stories. Arshya, Dhruv, Mrityunjay, Janani, Avanthika, and Snigdha made the best use of the opportunity to stage their storytelling skills. All their performances were lauded by Aunti and children were glad to receive tips to improvise their storytelling skills. Each of them was awarded a certificate of appreciation.
Later, when the floor was open for questions, Ragavi of grade 7, asked Aunti how she managed to narrate a story without using any kind of lexical fillers. Aunty stated that it was all about practising internalizing a story.
Students and teachers were given a chance to share their feedback. While Priyasahana, Pooja Mahesh, and Nathan expressed their happiness to have attended this wonderful session, Ms Nivetha and Ms Anusha conveyed their satisfaction and expressed their gratitude towards the team and Aunti Oni. The session truly kindled the spirit of storytelling and has certainly opened wider avenues to explore the art of story narration.
Overall, the session was truly a ‘Melange of Expressions’.
