Day 4 • The Final Act

Club report:

The session started off with us watching a video by Indian Raga on the poem ‘Still I Rise' by Maya Angelou. We had a discussion on the video. We then moved on to the next activity - having a table read of the poem, ‘The Frog and the Nightingale’ by Vikram Seth. Next, we analyzed the significance of the poem as well as the various characters. We were provided with an hour's time for preparing an act that captured the idea of the poem. In the last half hour, we filmed a portion of the act. The act consisted of various characters and roles- the narrators, the nightingale, the frog, supporting characters, the soundscaping artist, and a videographer.

Student Report by Raghavi Premnath 7D

Today’s drama club was super-interesting, especially because we actually had a chance to act and improve on our drama skills.

We were split into breakout rooms, and each group was given a short story to enact. A 9th grader was in each group to guide all of us children. We were given Goldilocks and the Three Bears, which I had originally thought was one of the most boring stories on Earth. Today, however, gave us a totally different perspective on the stories we always thought were for little kids. Today, I saw how extremely small actions and the repetition of a specific sentence could make a huge impact on our audience.

Lessons learned aside, today was one of the most fun days of this week. After hours of school, today was a great day to interact with other students from not only our class but other sections and grades. With Krish Anna, we had a lot of fun, and we laughed so much at everybody’s imitations of the Teeny Baby Bear, and everybody gave their ideas on how we could add additional sounds to make our drama interesting. It was especially funny when Abirami Akka from grade 8-something started Baby Bear’s line and trailed off due to some internet issue. We laughed for minutes, and most people even turned off their cameras, they were laughing that much!

Next Drama club, we’ll have around ten minutes to re-rehearse our skit, and then we’ll present it to our audience!

As I said, I don’t really think I’ve had this much fun since the beginning of time, and I’m really looking forward to December 18, which is our next drama club!

Feedback

1) So I went to the breakout room along with my friends from group 1 and we chose the story "Goldilocks and the three bears". Then we narrated the story among the group. After that, we selected the characters as Divya-Goldilock, Vridhi- The Narrator1, Krish Anna-Narrator2-,Abhirami Akka -Teeny tiny bear, and Aditya Anna-Papa bear respectively. We practised a couple of times for the play and we hope it becomes a grand success! Thank You Ma'am for giving me this wonderful opportunity!

Regards, Divya K Samtani 6D - From Group 1
