Our final Day: Performance Day!

Image
Today's session was a very enjoyable one. As it was performance day, all the groups, including mine got to perform on the story we had been working on for the past two club sessions. Every group gave an amazing performance and all of them were unique in their own way. Also, I had a wonderful time performing with my group. Waiting for more interesting sessions from Drama and Literary Club in the next academic year. Feedback: Today’s session was informative and interesting. The presentation of the other groups was awesome. We were able to get ideas and learn a lot more from them. I was delighted to do the drama activity in the breakout rooms and also during my presentation. The teachers were encouraging and supportive. I was overwhelmed when my teachers and friends appreciated my work. I would like to participate in the drama club next year too. Looking forward to doing more such activities. Day 5 • NATYA and NATAK

Image
Student Report by Vasudha: The session started off with an introduction to the chief guest of the day, Ms. Roopa, a Bharatnatyam dancer. She gave us all a beautiful explanation about the importance of literature, drama and dance, types of dances in India, and the different aspects of Bharatnatyam. The students were then asked to go into breakout rooms and practice enacting the ballad or story assigned to each of them. The tips given by Ms. Roopa helped us improve our techniques and execute the performance in a better way. The students had a lot of fun interacting with their peers and improving their acting skills. It was a really enjoyable session indeed.

Day 4 • The Final Act

Image
Club report: The session started off with us watching a video by Indian Raga on the poem ‘Still I Rise' by Maya Angelou. We had a discussion on the video. We then moved on to the next activity - having a table read of the poem, ‘The Frog and the Nightingale’ by Vikram Seth. Next, we analyzed the significance of the poem as well as the various characters. We were provided with an hour's time for preparing an act that captured the idea of the poem. In the last half hour, we filmed a portion of the act. The act consisted of various characters and roles- the narrators, the nightingale, the frog, supporting characters, the soundscaping artist, and a videographer.

Day 2 • Once Upon a Time...

Image
Date: 28.8.2021 Once upon a time, there were a bunch of bored kids. One day (28/8/2021) to banish their boredom they joined the prestigious house of drama. Their host was a passionate fairy godmother (Ms. Vaishali Chakravarty). She taught them to shed their inhibitions and embrace their natural talents of acting through a series of physical and vocal exercises. She then set them to the task of making freeze frames along with their companions in separate rooms of the house. The elementary kids were asked to perform stories of specific genres created by them, while the high school students enacted interviews of the Taliban crisis in Afghanistan. The elementary kids refurbished the stories they had created and prepared to perform them on the stage, while the high school kids found information about the Taliban and the events in Afghanistan and prepared it into a play. At the end of the day, the children were freed from the shackles of boredom and were promoted to the next stage of acting.

Day 1 • The Fun They Had (Not by Isaac Asimov)

Image
Know what's best about drama?  Go on, try guessing.  That's right. The emotions. The Wild faces of the children trying to express their excitement, their sadness, their happiness, their sorrow, and many more emotions. It's a sight worth seeing. Such beauty.  Their smiles, their frowns, their smirks, their incredulous faces. It's the best part of the drama.  Today, on 24.07.2021 we were assigned an activity by the Great  Vaishali mam, a drama icon, according to our children. Oh, The Fun They Had.  Grade 6 to 8 had an activity where they had to separate themselves into groups, pick a genre, a word, and create a story. Each of the groups picked different genre s, some even multiple genres infused together. Sure, they had a few conflicts of interest, but that's all a part of teamwork, right?  And as for grade 9 and above, not to worry, they were given a fun activity as well.  Although their activity was much more advanced than the lower grade's activity, it was fun
